Bleach, by Kubo Tite, is about the adventures of high-school student, Ichigo Kurosaki, who starts out in the story with the ability to see the souls of the dead. One day, he runs into the Shinigami (or Soul Reaper), Rukia Kuchiki, and is bestowed with the powers of a Shinigami. Its hard to summarize the story without dishing out spoilers, but Ill say that his life becomes far more complicated after receiving his new powers.
I started reading Bleach about a year or year and a half ago when I was still hardcore into the Naruto fandom. I kept hearing so much about Bleach, but never bothered to read it. But then when I saw so many people make debates about pairings, I started reading the manga out of curiosity to see where I would stand in the whole pairings frenzy.
Its a silly reason to start reading, I know, but from there on out, I slowly got more and more absorbed into the story, until I gradually got sucked out of the Naruto fandom and became hyper-obsessed with Bleach. Theres so many diverse characters, theres so many twists and turns that had me going WHAT THE SHITTACO?! a few times, the art is beautiful, and the character designs are AWESOME. Im totally hooked, and Im pretty sure I will be for a long time.
Grimmjow Jeagerjaques::
He is the Sexta Espada (or the sixth strongest Arrancar) under Aizens command, and seems to be very proud of this fact. Personality-wise, Grimmjow is actually kind of complex. Most of the time when you see him, hes violent, sadistic, short-tempered, irreverent, rebellious, and very impulsive.
However, later in the manga, he displays an odd and extremely twisted sense of honor when he has his sworn enemy, Ichigo healed, so they can have a fair fight, and also saves Orihime from abuse to repay his debt to her. And even though hes very hotheaded, hes made some surprisingly insightful remarks about things, and even bested an Arrancar two ranks above him with a surprise attack.
From the very first time I saw this guy, I instantly decided that his appearance was the most intriguing and awesome character design EVER. I was already a fan of the guy after he ran into Ichigo and Rukia, asked which one was stronger. When neither replied, he rammed his hand through Rukias stomach and commented Not you (The moment was just so hilariously bad ass that my sides were hurting from laughter).
But I really became a huge fan of his character shortly after getting his arm healed and in possibly the most awesomely badass moment ever in manga, proceeded to ram his hand through Luppi (who had been giving him a hard time about losing his arm), and blasted him away. Seriously, the moment was so awesome that its STILL the wallpaper for my cell phone. Hes my favorite character overall.
Orihime Inoue:
Orihime at first seems like your typical damsel-in-distress character, but she is FAR from being anywhere near any kind of stereotype. She is sensitive, kind, friendly, and academically smart. However, we fall in love with characters for their flaws, dont we? And Orihime has lots of them. Her imagination tends to get the best of her thinking and sees life in a very odd way (for example, when asked in class to draw a picture of how she sees her future self, she draws herself as a super-destructive robot XD), shes so caring that she doesnt even want to harm enemies if she can help it (which currently deems her useless on the offensive side of combat), shes prone to feelings of jealousy and inferiority (but she openly admits this and feels awful for having those feelings), and self-sacrificing to the point where she willingly allows herself to be detained by the enemy in exchange for the safety of her friends.
Her power is the Shun Shun Rikka, whose power comes from the hairpins she wears in her hair. When summoned, she has the power to control six fairy-like creatures who can create a shield, heal wounds, or cut an enemy in half (although I believe she was only able to effectively use the attack once in the entire manga). Later, its stated that her power is actually rejecting events. Or in other words, she can reject the will of God. This has led to some people disliking her for such a huge power, but I think its awesome coming from a girl such as herself.
Honestly, if it wasnt for her character in the beginning, I might not have had any motivation to read through the manga and probably would have never made it to the Soul Society arc (which was the point where everything became interesting). Compared to all the other characters at the start of the story, the quirkiness of Orihime made her far more interesting than everybody. I can definitely relate with her over reactive imagination, and shes a character I cant help but empathize with. Then after the Soul Society arc, I was extremely happy to see so much development with her inner turmoil in the story, which made her even more real to me, thus securing her spot as my second favorite character of EVERYTHING. I also believe that Kubo has many plans for her, because of her "God-like powers" Orihime might do something very drastic or amazing (both?) which I'm hoping for. She just has so much potential!
GrimmjowXOrihime:
Personally, I didnt even think of the possibility of the pairing until chapter 240 of the manga, where Orihime healed Grimmjows arm. I was instantly intrigued with how calm the normally very NOT calm Grimmjow was with her, and how she healed him with no sign of fear. Since there was a lack of interaction with my former OrihimeTP of IshiHime, I resorted to pretty much pairing her with everyone in the manga (and I still do), but when I saw this event in the manga, I IMMEDIATELY started looking for fanfiction of the pairing, which there was very little of at the time and I was sad that I couldnt find any fanart for the pairing.
Nevertheless, it was still my guilty pleasure, although I only had the one scene to go off from. But then, the miracle came in the form of Grimmjow saving Orihime, and I then fell deep into the GrimmHime fandom, and still havent recovered from it. Why do I like it so much? Well, the dynamic of Grimmjow and Orihimes nearly exact opposite of personalities is intriguing, as well as the fact that theyre both on different sides of the battlefield, and arent even the same classification of living beings. So naturally, the two are a goldmine of inspiration for a fanfiction writer, such as myself, who favors writing the more angsty and dark side of fiction.
Unlike several of the pairings I do ship though, this one has a little bit of canon evidence to support it. I know Im stretching things at this point, but bear with me. When you think of the requirements of a good relationship, what do you think of? Good communication, honesty, trust, understanding, and loyalty, right? It might not seem like it, but in an extremely twisted way, this pairing displays ALL of those qualities.
Good communication Whenever Orihime was curious about ANYTHING, Grimmjow completely informed her on the matter.
Honesty Grimmjow pretty much never tries to hide his intentions from her, no matter how bad they are. XD
Trust Orihime is naturally a trusting person, so no argument there. Grimmjow also displays trust in her powers, as he silenced a wailing child by showing his confidence in her power.
Understanding Hey, Grimmjow claims he understands Orihime better than Ichigo. Considering that Ichigo went to school with Orihime, and Grimmjow only interacted with Orihime a couple times in the manga, thats pretty amazing. XD
Loyalty Even if she was ordered to heal his arm, Grimmjow still took it upon himself to burst through a locked door and beat up two women that were abusing Orihime in repayment in the most brutal way possible. Thats hardcore dedication right there.
Im not naïve enough to think that the pairing has a large chance of becoming canon (although I go by the Never say never motto), and Im fine with that. Their interaction though in the manga, has been very interesting, and I could certainly see the potential of them being a couple. Grimmjow, the normally violent person, seemingly takes it easy on Orihime and is a lot more patient with her than he is with others. Another interesting note is that Orihime is the ONLY person hes interacted with in the entire manga that hes done ANYTHING nice for, despite the fact he wanted a favor from her in return.
Some say that hes only being nice to her, since he doesnt want to piss off Aizen. Im pretty sure that Aizen would be pretty pissed off though that he plucked her out of her room to heal an enemy that stepped foot on his turf and then refused to give her back to the person that Aizen appointed as her caretaker. Then why is he nicer to her then, you ask? Honestly, I dont know. I doubt its actually love or anything like that, but perhaps it stems from the fact that he hates anyone who looks upon him with a condescending look, and Orihime is about one of the least condescending people ever, who also did a couple of nice things for him.
On Orihimes side of the relationship, she also presents an interesting aspect to the relationship. Even if she knows how destructive and insane Grimmjow is, shes still courageous enough to stand up to him, as seen when she healed Loli and Menoli when told to heal her face and when refusing to heal Ichigo, when she knew he wanted to fight him. Perhaps that would seem detrimental to a relationship, but I think it actually would do Grimmjow a little good to be with someone who wouldnt cave into to his every command.
To those of you who say that Orihime declared her love for Ichigo in five lifetimes, and thus cant possibly fall in love with anyone else, have a sense of imagination! Orihime having feelings for Ichigo is part of the reason why I think she COULD also develop feelings for Grimmjow, as the two share a lot of personality traits. Both are impulsive, outspoken, and hotheaded, just to name a few similarities. Orihime also seemingly gets a kick out of Ichigos perma-scowl, and Grimmjow almost always has a scowl on his face too (when hes not in battle, that is). Sure, Grimmjow might not have the sense of righteousness that Ichigo has, but hes shown the potential to evolve. Also, I think if given the chance, Orihime could put up with him.
Whats also interesting about this pair is that the relationship could go two different ways. As a writer of stuff thats usually pretty dark-themed, I personally am more inspired by the possibility of Orihime having to sort through her darker emotions, while being held captive in Hueco Mundo, which would thus lead to more of a dark and sort of taboo-like relationship. Grimmjow did mention that something was going on inside of Orihime, so I dont think the dark emotions part, at least, is too far-fetched.
The other possibility, in an almost entirely opposite scenario, is that Grimmjow finally stands up to Aizen (but knowing Grimmjow, he still probably wouldnt necessarily join Ichigos side), does something half-ass heroic, and Orihime realizes that Grimmjow isnt such a bad guy after all, and its happily ever after for the two. Okay, so maybe the last part is way beyond the possibility of canon, but Grimmjow has saved Orihime once before (no matter what lame excuse he uses), and he for sure hates Aizen with a passion. So I think the possibility of Orihime MAYBE seeing Grimmjow in a better light is there.
In a more shallow reason, I also like the pair because they look great together. Sure, Grimmjow is like two feet taller than her, but I still think that his buff, punk-like, and rough image contrasts nicely with Orihimes dainty, soft, and classically pretty one. And for you art students, orange (Orihimes hair color) is the opposite color of blue (Grimmjows hair color), which adds even more to the contrasting imagery between the two. And in an even more shallow way of looking at the pairing, Orihime is hot, Grimmjow is hot, so in that way, naturally its a hot pairing. XD

Mhmmm. I think you're a lot like Orihime! You've got a very big imagination(: Oh and thanks lol, It actually only took me about 25min to do this. I did this mainly for my benefit and because a lot of my friends asked me why I like Bleach, Grimmjow, Orihime, and GrimmXHime pairing so much. So I decided to make my reasons. Did you read all of it? Lol.
Who do you think I'm like the most? (Male or Female!)
